A new trend of video-conferencing is dawning upon the world with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Business meetings, classroom lectures, and every possible task are being done through virtual media. A shift from offline to online is being evidenced everywhere. There has been a steep increase in the downloading rate of video-conferencing apps like Zoom, Google Hangouts Meet, Microsoft team worldwide crossing 62 million times last week with Zoom being the most preferred one. This phase is an unprecedented time for the world and an incredibly dynamic development period for the virtual space.

 

With video chat rooms becoming common, users find confronting their on-screen reflections difficult. Appearance and presentation play a key role in video meetings too and people often get conscious about it. Media professionals of Northeastern University have laid down some suggestions and tips for smoothing out the rough edges and improving on-screen appearance for the virtual classroom and boardroom. It includes maintenance of perfect eye level with the camera, avoidance of cluttered and bright background, ensuring accurate light intensity, reduction of background noise and many more. These tips can help avoid any kind of distraction and embarrassment.

 

This paradigm switch in working practices has essentially affected all businesses. The recruitment processes have also shifted online, and the use of video has become the primary methodology for interviews. Concerns like flexible working practices, diversification of skills, and rising concern for work-life balance are also effectively resolved through this practice. This technology is imperative for the persistent welfare of social and economic communities especially at times when the demand for teaching and healthcare professionals is exceptionally high.
