Good food choices are good investments

Good food choices are good investments

Health is wealth is an old maxim. We eat to live and not live to eat. We are studying since childhood that one should take a balanced diet. A diet that contains all the nutrients like carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, minerals, et cetera in a proper ratio is called a balanced diet. It is useful for proper growth and metabolism. So, considering all this everyone should take a healthy diet. A healthy diet contains seafood, eggs, soy products, beans, peas, fresh fruits, green leafy vegetables, whole grains like whole-wheat, popcorn, quinoa, brown rice, and dairy products like milk, cheese, yoghurt, etc. One should avoid→

  • Added sugars like corn sweeteners and brown sugar.
  • Saturated fats and trans-fats.
  • Refined grains like pasta and white bread.
  • High-calorie intake.

A professor at Northeastern University carried a survey on the food consumption habits of people in France, the U.K., and Germany.

However, nowadays the food consumption habits of people don’t match the above-given instructions. There is a trend of pizzas and pasta. Especially, children and young adults prefer to eat spicy and ready to eat foods. Sometimes, people who live away from homes are dependent on a fast-food diet. Fast foods are those food items that are fast to cook, easily available, good in taste but difficult to digest and have low nutritional value. Though they are mouth-watering, they have high cholesterol values which are dangerous for heart and also aid in constipation. The outlets which provide these junk foods normally follow unhygienic practices. People just sit on their couch in front of their televisions and laptops with delicacies in their hand which increases the risk of obesity which is the root cause of many other diseases like heart attack, liver damage, etc.

In a nutshell, these foods if taken, once a while for taste are alright but if we eat these kinds of foods regularly, it can create serious problems. Sometimes, the intake of fast food can affect our brains. We should avoid these food items. Otherwise, the choice is yours- health or taste.
